More fall, randdomness and Clowdess

Hey friends! Long time, no talk. Life is busy in the fall. I love the fall and it FLIES by because our schedules are nutso. It invites my coffee habit to come back in full force. It means that Jason HAS to have new fall candles. Never mind that there are 30 under the cabinet. They are no longer “fally” enough, nor do they appeal to him. Who knew one’s taste could change from one fall to another. So, with new candles in tow, he’s a happy little puckin’. If I’m being honest, I am too. I’m ok with this obsession of his because we are both fairly OCD about smells….living with a toddler only escalates my OCD, by the way.

Which leads me to outside décor. Tis the season to pull out “Evie ghost.” My scars have now faded from my war with the glue gun and I have a new love for “Evie ghost.” I think she’s cute. The real Evie loves “Evie ghost.” Oct. 1 barely had time to make an appearance before I had her residing on the front porch. Speaking of outside décor, as we leave our ‘hood every morning, we have to stop, count and acknowledge all puckin’s. The real Evie is OBSESSED! Have her parents stopped to buy her one, you ask?? No, but it’s on this weekend’s to-do list. Thankfully, our neighbor loves her enough to let her light her puckin’ every night. Mom of the year, right here! Lastly, under outside décor, I was talked into an orange- FALL(!!!!)- bow for my mailbox. I love it. Jason isn’t a fan. Another neighbor informed me she thought I had become an Auburn or Tennessee fan over night. Ok, that is NOT acceptable and it may have to be promptly removed. I live in the south. This is how we equate and compare colors down here, y’all! She makes a VERY valid point…especially with this week’s game looming.

My parents have a new…thing (?) at their house. He lives by the fish pond(s). His name is Clowdess. I received a call this morning from my mom asking if I could receive picture texts because they need Evie to become familiar and KNOW Clowdess. I had not heard of this “thing,” so you can imagine my shock when I received his mug shot.I’ll keep you posted on Clowdess. Who comes up with a name like that? My dad has been heavily medicated for the past three weeks for an eye condition that is resulted in emergency surgery (I’m sure he loves this making the blog). So, perhaps “Clowdess” was birthed under a heavy medicated state. Yet, he's endearing.... while he fishes in the pond??!?!Evie went to see Clowdess. They became fast friends. Did I mention it’s fire safety week? A fire truck visited her school…she was a REALLY big fan.Just thought I should mention that so you don’t think my parents are part-time members of the local volunteer fire department. If they were, my dad would probably refuse to wear his safety goggles…..men can be stubborn.

If we had mature trees, I’d rake the leaves and jump in them. I love fall! Next week, in the midst of traveling, meetings and other adulthood type items, Evie has a fall festival that includes bobbing for apples. How do you think that will go over for an almost two year old? I never gave her swimming lessons and I don’t think a crash course would help much at this point. Stay tuned.....

Oh the memories...

Evie and I headed south last weekend while JB headed west. We went to the beach to see my grandparents during their month long hiatus. RETIREMENT….what a beautiful thing! It was a long drive for approximately only 41 hours, but it was so very worth it. The babe-child adores the “oh-sheeeen.” She also adores her “GG daddy” and if my aunt (she was my travel companion) and I heard “GG” one more time between Birmingham and the “oh-sheeen” I might have had ol’ GG pick up EB on the side of the road. This man’s face LIGHTS up when EB enters the room. They played together………and broke lots of rules! This child loves the water. She has NO fear (hence, the life jacket). We jumped…and swam….and jumped some more until we turned purple and couldn’t stop shaking. Like every other warm blooded American, while you are at the beach, you take pictures on the beach. SIGH! I took 240 pictures, that’s right, and I MAYBE have 3 decent ones (that you won’t be seeing in hopes they make it on a Christmas card). My aunt, on QUITE the other hand, had like a gazillion good ones. We have the same camera. We stood side-by-side. We clicked at the same times. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WRONG WITH ME?! It’s infuriating, quite frankly. I guess she had the better side. Who knows. BUT….Nonetheless, we took pictures….. and danced……and played…..and didn’t behave…..Whatever! It’s the beach!
And that's all folks..... She was DONE!
A great weekend with great memories and we were worn SLAP out!!

It's fall y'all!

Well, I live in Alabama, so it may be 95 on Thanksgiving, but nonetheless, the feeling of fall has been in the air as of late. In fact, as I was walking EB into school on Monday, she quite emphatically let me know that, “It cowld, momma.” Sorry, sweet child, your mom has not stopped to buy you anything of warmth. So, with that said, fall means:

Blue jeans (without burning slap up in them. Yes, we went THAT night and bought blue jeans.) FOOTBALLLLLLL (Americana, that is). With a hearty "Row Tie," of course! Football means YUMMY, FATTY foods!
AND…..quite frankly, it is OFFICIALLY October which means I can now pull out my Christmas music. Yes, I’m very serious. My new most favorite CD is compliments of Ms. Wolfe, soon-to-be-Searson, Straight No Chaser. It’s a must in your fun Christmas CD rotation. They occasionally come on PBS and I may or may not have watched them EVERY.SINGLE.TIME last year.
Here, I'll just be nice and save you the research (I'm posting this one only because my mom hates this song and gets all in a tizz when it starts. I LOVE IT, the song, I mean):

The 5 little monkeys...didn't work.

I got a weekly update today regarding my “22 month old.” It said the following:

Your toddler can probably hop off the bottom step of a staircase by throwing one foot forward and letting the other follow. But
true jumping, where both feet leave the ground at the same time and then land squarely, is a skill that requires excellent balance and may take a few more months to master. You can help her practice two-footed jumping by putting some pillows on the floor and letting her leap onto them from something low, like a child-size footstool. Ironically, I leave you with what I was going to originally blog about today….

**********************************************

Remember the story of the five little monkeys?
They bumped their heads when they fell from their bunkies!?!

Well, this little monkey of mine had her own thrill..
She jumped on her cot, fell and hit the window sill.
A trip to the ER, a glued lip and a sore head,
The doctor said, "No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"

Thank you, Baby Center for the “warning.” I would have appreciated a more timely e-mail warning say…..ohh…… YESTERDAY!

A child's heart

My child is....well...rather spirited. She does things and [TRIES] to say things that are just downright funny to us. Tonight, however, she was so sweet.

During her prayers we were thanking Jesus for our friends, our teachers and before I could say another word, I hear "....and daddy....and papa.....and meeweee." Precious. Such a sweet moment. For those who aren't fluent in "Evie," that translates to daddy, Papa Ron and Millie (my mom).

Ironically, I'm not so sure she isn't sitting in timeout in this picture... If I had to guess, she was probably asking for "daddy..pappa.. and meeweee." Mercy!

"Row Tie"

At this point right now, I have somehow thwarted all attempts of my child being bound and gagged to the "dark" side that is Auburn football.....for now.

We meet again!

Well, HELLO faithful friends! To say we have been MIA might be a slight understatement. Also, to say we have been busy would also be a slight understatement, I'd say. Things have been slightly hairy at the Blacks the past couple of weeks with work schedules, stuff going on in the evenings and, OF COURSE, EB being/getting/staying sick. “Weeza” was with her Pappa Ron on Monday because she wasn’t feeling like her fiery little self. To make a long story short, we ended up rendezvousing at an emergency doctor’s appointment because she was having a very hard time breathing. So, two breathing treatments and an x-ray later, we were sent home (thankfully… there was a split second where being admitted was mentioned) to do little treatments every four hours for a 24 hour period. LOVELY.However, she’s back to her wild ways, big eyed self and feeling like a champ as she swings from the rafters and treats my furniture like a trampoline. In the past few weeks, we officially closed out the summer with the Orientation Leaders. We love them and wish them an AWESOME year! We went to a pretend pep rally and EB wore.it.out. with her signature moves. She also took it all in and surveyed “her” land.... ...And decided she very well may be a cheerleader-despite her clothes being a tad big and her pigtails being a bit lopsided. Her little spirit is quite contagious.
