Rando random

I have been berated for my lack of blogging. I know you have been waiting with bated breath, you don’t have to tell me twice (twice, meaning all two of you who read this). The real truth of the matter is, we are just boring right now, and how sweet it is. January and February are pretty much the only two months where things remain at a normal pace- they also happen to be my LEAST favorite months of the ENTIRE twelve. So, see, we’ve just been hanging out, enjoying a little bit of down time. Less travel. Less projects. A few fewer demands. AND… a child who is CLIMBING the walls because all she wants to do is “Wide her bike outside before it gets dwark.” Well, it’s REALLY hard to beat the setting sun in the winter afternoons, so I’m waiting PATIENTLY for Daylight Savings Time. It is the MOST glorious day of the year when I get home and it feels like 3 p.m. Driveway time will be back in full session and I’ll have a happier child and dog, and the husband will have a much happier wife. I had a neighbor ask me once if we EVER went inside…. Not if I can help it.

I’m the determining factor of all things “too cold or too dark.” So, when I deem it appropriate to “wide the bike” we RIDE. I have to say, I’m pretty darn proud of how well EB has handled her bike. I thought she was WAY too young, and we still have our moments, but the girl can scoot.I often find myself jogging to keep up or waking up every living creature to tell her to slow down. So, it has been really fun for her and really exciting for us to watch her achieve that little feat. Not to beat a very dead horse or anything, but it NEVER fails that I’m watching her ride and I think, “How in the WORLD is this my baby? When in the WORLD did she become this little girl?” It’s amazing and brings more joy than I could ever explain to you. We’ve always had our reading time before bed, but it has taken on a new look these days. We read, we cuddle and before we say our prayers we just talk. We rehash our day, we laugh, we joke, we solve MANY MANY of the world’s problems, she asks me stuff like, “We don’t eat yellow snow, right?” (did she SERIOUSLY ask me that? Where in the world did that come from??) and we say our prayers and our good nights. It’s like having a little adult. AND…then, I catch her on the stairs and send her to bed AT LEAST twice a night. Ok, that’s dramatic, but, as I’m told, “I just needed my mommy/daddy.” So, of course, we oblige..unless we really are on the second time and then the talons come out.

So, there ya go! These are precious days and we’re just enjoying them. March is on its way and we’re gearing up.

February is here. This week, Lord willing, will be my first solid week at work in like two weeks because of the germ monkey that resides under my roof. We have been dead dog sick, with the tiniest one leading the way. We spent most of last week curled up on the sofa. In case you’re wondering, we now recite Lion King and Tangled back and forth to each other. Note to self: Put that little mind to better use, but…when you’re sick, you’re sick. EB spent several days with a secondary infection and topped it all off with a 104.3 fever. It was scary. I’d like to think that I’m usually the calm, less dramatic of the two parental figures, but Jason was out of town and I called him in tears. It’s scary when they feel that bad, isn’t it. I’ve failed to document that both of her tubes fell out right around when she turned three. We are also back to ear infections. Sigh. You know what’s even worse… I’ve shared with you my horrid math skills, correct? Jason got back into town and was giving EB her meds one evening. I gasped and said, “NO! That is WAY too much.” No…no…he was indeed correct. For the four days he was gone, she was getting half of the dosage she needed. This, my friends, is why I work in PR and not at your local pharmacy. I’d have you all dead or high as a kite! Really, I guess that would be my reading skills, not math, but whatever!

All three humans are finishing their [proper dosage] antibiotics and are alive and well again. Its feels good to breathe, taste, move around and be normal.Happy February, I guess!

What would you be?

If you had plans to be in a circus parade at school, what would you choose to dress up as? That’s easy for me. I would, hands down, choose a clown (despite that I look like a ring master today with my suit of choice).

This question plagued the three year old. She thought on it for a week. Her only question was, “Can I take my dog to school?” (her stuffed one, not Gus).

The end result..a dog trainer: Recycled Halloween costume...That was as good as it got this morning.

I think we were pretty close.

This is a season...

Yes, yes it is. But, oh my… I used to babysit my life away. That is LITERALLY all I did, but OH HOW I LOVED IT. I love all of those kids who were so dear to me then even to this very day today. They are all growing (some in college..GASP) and have turned into such awesome young adults. I’m QUITE sure it had EVERYTHING to do with my time with them. HA! Anyway, I felt through my YEARS UPON YEARS of babysitting that parenting would be old hat. UM….. Then, along came Evie Black. Lord have mercy on my patience…and mouth…and reactions.I have mentioned before that her personality is hilarious. “Spunk” and “sass” seem to be watered down terms to describe her. Funny…oh my, she is funny. BUT… OH the attitude that comes from those big ol’ eyes and those perfect little lips. WOWZERS. I used to LOVE when my baby sitting kids would turn three. If you don’t know, the threes are HILARIOUS. They don’t have a filter, but their words are there enough to form the most hilarious phrases, observations, honesty, etc. UNTIL… it turns against you and you want to climb the walls.Yet, amongst all of that, I love her from her chipped toenail “powish” all the way up to the hairs on her head that are now about two inches shorter than the rest of her little cute bob thanks to her wanting to go hairstylist on me.Our days are fun. Thank goodness for a patient, mild-mannered daddy. No wonder they are BFF.
